If you're just getting started in scouting and are from the Hoopeston area, here are some scouting basics:

Cub Scout Pack 118 is Chartered by the United Methodist Church of Hoopeston

·        All meetings are held at the Methodist Church

·        Cub Scout Meetings run from September to May of the following year

·        There are 3 Summer activities, one for each month usually                            

·        Registration for new Cub Scouts is in August – you don’t have to start as a Tiger

·        Any boy who is in 1st – 5th Grade may join the Cub Scouts

·        Registration fee for new scouts - $20.00 plus shirt

·        You may also sign up for the Boys Life magazine ($12.00) at time of registration

·        Pack 118 is made up of 5 Dens

·        Each Den is a small group that meets with a Den Leader 1-3 times a month (and maybe more depending on the den)

·        Scouts are put into Den’s that match their Grade Level in School

§        Tigers – 1st Grade

§        Wolf – 2nd Grade

§        Bear – 3rd Grade

§        Webelos I – 4th Grade

§        Webelos II – 5th Grade 

·        Den meetings are where the scouts do activities that help them earn awards and promote to the next rank, scout will learn many things through some of the activities such as these:

§        Woodworking

§        How to use tools and camping equipment properly

§        Carving

§        Memorization

§        Scout songs, oaths & creeds

§        History

§        Science projects

§        Plus many more fun activities     

·        Pack Meetings are held once a month (3rd Friday of the Month) at 7:00 pm at the Hoopeston Methodist Church.

·        Pack Meetings involve all 5 Dens and include fun activities, speakers & demonstrations and award ceremonies including:

                   §        The Pinewood Derby (build your own car)

§        The Blue & Gold Banquet (blue & gold are the colors of the cub scout)

§        The Feller Cake Bake (Dads and scouts have to bake cake without help)

§        Fundraising activities (famous scout popcorn sales, candy, car washes, etc)

§        Special Workshops (how to build a faster derby car / candle making)

§        Promotion to next Den or to Cub Scouts

§        The highest award a Cub Scout can achieve is “The Arrow of Light”

§        Once a Cub Scout has achieved “The Arrow of Light” they may move up to the Boy Scouts
